Schwab Opens Application Period for Johnson County Election Commissioner

TOPEKA – Today, Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab announced that the application period for the Johnson County Election Commissioner position is now open. Applications will be accepted until June 1.
As required by state law, Secretary of State Schwab will form a search committee to identify, interview, and recommend candidates for the position of election commissioner. The committee is required to include representatives from Johnson County government and representatives of the secretary of state’s office. The committee will recommend at least three candidates to Secretary Schwab, who will interview candidates and make the final selection.
During the interim, Connie Schmidt will continue to serve as Johnson County Election Commissioner.
“The search for a qualified candidate has begun,” said Schwab. “We are looking for a strong leader with experience in the Kansas elections space to lead the largest county in Kansas.”
Pursuant to K.S.A. 19-3419, qualified candidates “shall have been a resident of the state at least two years prior to appointment and resident of the county on the day such election commissioner files the oath of office”. Applicants must be a qualified Kansas elector.
