APPLICATION PERIOD OPENS FOR SEDGWICK COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSIONER

TOPEKA – Secretary of State Scott Schwab today announced that applications are being accepted for the Sedgwick County Election Commissioner position. Interested parties have until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2023, to apply.

The selection committee consists of representatives from Sedgwick County government and the Secretary of State’s office to review applicant information and interview candidates. The committee will recommend finalists to Secretary Schwab, who will interview and appoint the next Sedgwick County Election Commissioner.

“Elections are a critical function of government, and I appreciate the committee’s prompt action to ensure a highly qualified candidate is selected to take on this important responsibility,” said Schwab.

Pursuant to K.S.A. 19-3419, qualified candidates “...shall have been a qualified elector and a resident of the county at least two years prior to appointment.” Applicants must also be a citizen of the United States, 18 years or older and registered to vote. Although not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following credentials:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Graduate degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Public Administration, or related fields
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum of three to five years management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship building
