SECRETARY OF STATE WARNS OF MISLEADING BUSINESS MAILING

TOPEKA – Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab provided warning to Kansas business entities of a misleading mailing being sent to several newly formed Kansas business entities. The mailing, appearing to be from KS Certificate Service, tells the business they may need a Certificate of Good Standing (CGS).

"Businesses should be on alert for these mailings," said Secretary of State Scott Schwab. "The Secretary of State’s office corresponds directly with businesses and does not use third parties to contact businesses on our behalf."

Similar mailings have been sent to businesses in other states. Businesses are encouraged to contact the Secretary of State’s office if they have received any suspicious letters or solicitations appearing to be sent on behalf of the Secretary of State. The office notes that many businesses filings and services can be obtained online through the Secretary of State’s website – sos.ks.gov, including a Certificate of Good Standing. The cost to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing is $10 for online requests and $15 for mail requests.
