The law requires charitable organizations, as defined in Kansas Statutes Annotated 17-1760, to register with the Secretary of State's office prior to soliciting. Fund raisers and solicitors working for the charitable organization also must register. The Kansas Charitable Organizations and Solicitations Act is located in Kansas law at K.S.A. 17-1759 et seq.

The kscharitycheck.org Web site allows you to determine whether a charitable organization is registered with our office. Registration with our office does not constitute any endorsement of the charitable organization, its fund raisers or its solicitors. Forms may be completed on your screen, printed, and mailed to the Secretary of State.

Certain charitable organizations are exempt from the required registration. The list of exceptions is contained in Kansas Statutes Annotated 17-1762. Failure to register when required by law can result in prosecution by the Attorney General or county prosecutors. The Attorney General, county attorney or district attorney may also be contacted to see if any complaints have been filed against the charitable organization.
