    08/02/2002  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh is projecting a low voter turnout for the primary election scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday, August 6. "We will see a record low turnout in the upcoming primary election," stated Thornburgh.

    07/17/2002   The United States district court ruled in favor of extending the deadline allowing military service men and women and overseas civilians additional time to return their primary election ballot.

    07/16/2002  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh is reminding Kansans the deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation for the primary election is Monday, July 22 at 5 p.m.

    07/03/2002  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh thanked the U.S.District Court for ruling quickly in the congressional redistricting case. “The court’s ruling means the August 6th primary election will be conducted as scheduled,” stated Thornburgh.

    06/26/2002  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh announced the state voter registration cards are available in Spanish. This is the first time in Kansas that voter registration cards are available in a second language.

    06/24/2002  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh announced he will ask the United States District Court to allow federal service personnel additional time to return their primary election ballots.

    06/21/2002  The candidate filing deadline for Kansas House of Representatives and Kansas State Board of Education for the August primary is noon, Monday, June 24, 2002. The Secretary of State's office will have the filing procedure set up from 8 a.m. to noon in the first floor conference room (room 120).

    01/17/2002  LOBBYIST DIRECTORY GOES ONLINE: The Kansas Lobbyist Directory can now be accessed online at www.kssos.org. The new online directory includes a search feature, which allows users to search for lobbyist and the organizations they represent. In addition, users can download and print the directory.
    Hard copies of the directory can also be purchased in the Secretary of State’s office for $2.00 plus tax per copy. The new charge is an effort to recover the expense of formatting and printing the directory.

    12/13/2001  Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh today announced he is pleased with the passage of the Ney-Hoyer election reform bill (H.R. 3295). The United States House of Representatives passed the bill Wednesday afternoon with 362 members voting in favor and 63 members voting against the bill.

    11/20/2001  Topeka, November 20, 2001 - The holiday season brings a blizzard of solicitations from charities. Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, Attorney General Carla Stovall, and Secretary of Aging Connie Hubbell have partnered to launch Kansas Charity Check, a Web site designed to promote and encourage informed decisions when contributing to a charitable organization.

    09/21/2001  The Kansas Secretary of State’s Office once again conducted an opinion poll at their booth during the 2001 Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, Sept. 7-16. “The purpose of the poll is to promote the concept of voting; gage opinions on important issues and some of the questions are designed just to have a little fun,” said Brad Bryant, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Elections and Legislative Matters.

    07/24/2001  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh announced today the appointment of Marilyn Chapman to Sedgwick County Election Commissioner. The swearing in ceremony will take place on Tuesday, July 24 at 1:30 at the Sedgwick County Election Office.

    07/24/2001  STATEMENT ISSUED BY SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE AND KIDS VOTING KANSAS REGARDING WEBSITE:  The Secretary of State’s office and Kids Voting Kansas is issuing a warning to parents and schools regarding the Kids Voting Kansas Website. Parents should be advised that the material on the website (www.kidsvotingkan.org) is not suitable for children. This domain name is now in use by another organization and the contents are not suitable for children. Kids Voting Kansas will have their website up and running at a new address in the next few weeks. Kids Voting Kansas is a non-profit agency operated by the Kids Voting Kansas State Board.

    07/16/2001  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh took the oath of office today to become president of the National Association of Secretaries of State, which is meeting this week in Little Rock, Arkansas.     07/02/2001  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh announced today the launch of the new online Uniform Commercial Code filing system. The new online filing system is secure and it is "easier, cheaper, and faster" for customers.

    06/13/2001  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh will represent Kansas at the American Swiss Foundation’s 2001 Young Leaders Conference in Switzerland. The exchange will be held in Bad Ragaz, which is one-hour southeast of Zurich. The conference will begin on June 15th and end on June 24th.

    05/17/2001  The Kansas Secretary of State's office was presented with the Educational Program to Promote Electronic Filing Achievement Award at the 2001 International Association of Corporation Administrators conference. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in electronic filings.

    05/08/2001  Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh will lead the Kansas State Leadership Initiative to the Republic of Cuba May 12th - 19th. The 16-member delegation is comprised of leaders from business, education and government. The delegation will meet with Cuban professionals to learn about involvement and opportunities in business and agriculture in Cuba.

    02/12/2001  Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh will meet with the Senate Judiciary Committee today at 9:30 in Room 123-S to express his support for Senate Bill 128. Secretary Thornburgh proposed the bill to address \ recent problems with election crimes in Kansas. The bill speaks to four \types of election problems: voter registration suppression, vote trading, \voter intimidation and electioneering.
