Job Requirements

The successful applicant will:

      Be able to devise strategies for communicating to various audiences across different platforms (web, radio, TV, print, etc)

      Be thoughtful, articulate and experienced in all aspects of written and verbal communications

      Have an in-depth knowledge and understanding about the workings of the media and media relations

      Be able to work under pressure including successfully meeting deadlines and due dates

      Be professional, courteous, organized, attentive to details, creative, and adaptable

      Demonstrate leadership abilities

      Be able to plan, organize and coordinate activities

      Have supervisory and managerial expertise


Required Skills

      College degree (4 year)

      Experience with media relations

      Experience formulating strategies to effectively communicate across various platforms


Preferred Skills

      Supervisory and managerial experience


Work Examples

Serve as the agency spokesperson for all matters relating to the operation of the Secretary of States office. Help develop and provide a clear and consistent message for all internal and external communications. Prepare and distribute press releases and media advisories. Help manage Public Affairs department and supervise Public Affairs employee(s).


Salary Range

Starting Salary: $16.19/hour ($33,675.20/annual)

        Increase to $16.56/hr ($34,444.80/annual) after successful completion of 120-day probationary period
