Applications Development Manager
Type of Position:
Full Time – Exempt
8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Mon. – Fri.
applications and assist with the maintenance of existing applications; act as a
supervisor and mentor for IT staff; coordinate production of IT work unit;
provide advice for subordinates on technical matters; define, establish and
enforce development standards; serve as project manager for major projects; and
provide technical assistance with the design and installation of IT systems.
ü Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, or related discipline
ü 5 years applications programming experience (this position will require daily coding)
ü 3 years management / supervisory experience
ü Extensive knowledge of techniques, procedures and methods of computer systems and application programming activities including relational database design
ü Strong technical skills
ü Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage many on-going projects
ü Ability to develop applications in a full SDLC environment
ü Knowledge and experience in the area of supervision principles and practices, staff development and training
ü Ability to plan, review, and organize the work of technical personnel
ü A strong work ethic including the ability to work under extreme pressure in order to meet deadlines and due dates, and motivate others by leading by example
ü Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain working relationships with customers (both internal and external), technical staff, management, and vendors
communication skills including the ability to: prepare clear and concise written
reports, effectively participate as a member of a team, and communicate well
verbally with users, staff, management and others
Preferred Skills & Experience (must be strong in at least 4)
Ø Project management experience
Ø IBM i-Series (AS/400)
Starting Salary: $47,673.60 annually ($1,833.60 bi/weekly)
· After successful completion of 120 day probationary period and Kansas project management methodology course, annual salary will increase to $48,838.40
The Kansas Secretary of State’s office is responsible for
numerous constitutional and statutory duties.
Our IT department supports various modern and legacy technologies. This position requires incumbents to
evaluate existing platforms and application development environments and
recommend solutions for new environments.
