Position (1):

Network / Security Specialist

Type of Position:

Full Time Exempt

Office Hours:

8:00 am 5:00 pm; Mon. Fri.


Work Examples

Serve as the agency network and IT security administrator. Provide technical expertise in the design, installation, security, administration of IT systems, PC hardware / software installation and upgrades, peripheral unit installation and upgrades and environmental control. Oversee emergency management and business continuity planning. Serve as main technician for agency help desk. Assist in establishing and enforcing IT security policies and procedures.


Job Requirements

      Bachelors degree in computer science, MIS, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience and certifications (e.g. MCSE, CISCO, Security+, CISSP)

      Experience in desktop support and network/server administration

      Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage many on-going projects

      A strong work ethic including the ability to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines and due dates

      Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain working relationships with customers (both internal and external), technical staff, management, and vendors

      Excellent communication skills including the ability to: prepare clear and concise written reports, effectively participate as a member of a team, and communicate well verbally with users, staff, management and others


Special Requirement

      Employment contingent upon applicants ability to obtain Kansas Bureau of Investigations Level 1 Security Clearance


Preferred Skills & Experience (should be strong in at least 5)

      Network administration

      IT security

      Network switching, routing and IP protocol

      Firewall, IDS/IPS

      PC, server installation, configuration

      Anti-virus administration

      Web content filtering

      Web server administration and security


Salary Range

Starting salary: $51,500.80/yr ($24.76/hr)

Work Environment

The Kansas Secretary of States office is responsible for numerous constitutional and statutory duties. Our IT department supports various modern and legacy technologies. This position requires incumbents to evaluate existing environment and recommend solutions for new environments.
