SEC. BIGGS ENCOURAGES KANSANS TO ‘THROW HAT IN RING’
Deadline to file noon on June 10th

TOPEKA, KS – Kansas Secretary of State Chris Biggs reminds Kansans that Democratic and Republican candidates who wish to appear on the primary ballot on August 3, 2010 must file for office by noon on Thursday, June 10th.


“Running for elected office is a challenging endeavor, but in my personal experience, there is nothing more rewarding than public service,” Biggs said. “I encourage all Kansans who are interested in serving their communities to ‘throw their hat in the ring’ and file for office.”


In order to file for office, individuals must complete the necessary paperwork and submit a fee or petition. Candidates for national or state office file with the Secretary of State’s Office, while candidates for local office file with their county election office. In 2010, individuals will be elected or retained for the following offices:


-- One U.S. Senator-- State Board of Education (#1, 3, 5, 7, 9)
-- All four U.S. Representatives-- District Magistrate Judges (16 retained, 2 elected)
-- Governor / Lt. Governor-- Four Kansas Supreme Court Justices (#1, 2, 3, 5)
-- Secretary of State-- Eight Kansas Court of Appeals Judges
-- Attorney General-- District Court Judges (40 retained, 29 elected)
-- State Treasurer-- Commissioner of Insurance
-- All 125 State Representatives
