THORNBURGH CONVENES
STATE BOARD OF CANVASSERS
Topeka, KS – Today, Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh convened a meeting of the State Board of Canvassers at 10 a.m. in the Secretary of State’s office, Memorial Hall, second floor. The board met to review and certify the official abstract of votes cast on the constitutional amendment question submitted at the general election held on April 5, 2005.
The constitutional amendment question passed with 417,627 Kansans voting for the amendment and 179,432 Kansans voting against the amendment. One million six hundred eighty-eight thousand nine hundred twenty-six Kansans were eligible to vote in the election and 598,808 voted or 35.5%.
The board is defined by state law and comprised of Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, Governor Kathleen Sebelius and Attorney General Phill Kline. Board members may send a designee to represent them at the canvass.
Upon concluding the canvass, the results of the constitutional amendment question will be deemed official and made available to the public.
