SECRETARY OF STATE RON THORNBURGH READS TO
CHILDREN AT THE CAPPER FOUNDATION
Topeka, KS Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh will read to children
ages two and a half to six years old on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at 10:30 a.m.
as a part of the Capper Foundations Kidlink Preschool and Childcare Program.
I am grateful to be a small part of such a wonderful program,
said Thornburgh. As a father of two boys I understand and appreciate the
benefits of programs like Kidlink and the volunteers and staff who give of their
time and energy. I encourage all Kansans to give back to their communities by
participating in programs like Kidlink.
The Capper Foundation was started in 1920 by Senator Arthur Capper who had
a passion for children with physical disabilities. Now, 80 years later the Capper
Foundation has a new 50,000 square foot facility, state of the art technologies
and more quality programs.
The Kidlink Pre-School and Childcare Program provides cognitive, communicative,
social/emotional, physical, and self-help skills to children with diverse abilities.
The goal is to assist children to develop positive self-esteems, learn to assert
their individuality, experience a sense of independence, and celebrate their
differences. In doing so, children will learn how to maximize their strengths
and opportunities.
