THORNBURGH HOLDS KIDS VOTING KANSAS MEETING IN NORTON
Topeka, KS Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh will meet with Norton
citizens on October 6, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Public
Library in Norton, Kansas. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss implementing
the Kids Voting Kansas program in area schools.
Kids Voting is a critical program that I hope to implement in every
Kansas school, Thornburgh said. Abraham Lincoln said, the
philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government
in the next. That is why we must instill in our youth the importance of
participating in democracy and Kids Voting is the program that will get it done.
Kids Voting Kansas is a K 12th grade, grassroots, nonpartisan, nonprofit
organization dedicated to educating Kansas youth about the rights, responsibilities
and mechanics of participating in American democracy. Kids Voting strives to
bring out the best in American democracy through proven strategies in civic
education, family involvement, private/public partnerships and community volunteerism.
