SECRETARY OF STATE EMPLOYEE TO
KISS A PIG FOR MARCH OF DIMES CAMPAIGN
Topeka, KS Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh proposed a challenge
to all employees of the Secretary of States office to raise money for
the March of Dimes WalkAmerica campaign. Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh,
Assistant Secretary of State Janet Chubb, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of
State Fariba Pouraryan have competed for several months to collect the most
dimes for the March of Dimes. The winner will be announced on Monday, April
21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Hall Building (120 SW 10th Ave) on the south
steps. The person that raises the most money will be required to kiss a pig.
The Secretary of States office has joined other state agencies to promote
and raise money for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica campaign. The office hopes
to raise $2,000 for the cause and will continue to hold fund raisers until the
date of the walk.
The walk will be held on Friday, April 25 at Gage Park. Registration for
the walk begins at 5:00 p.m., and the official WalkAmerica starting time is
6:00 p.m. More than 600 Topeka residents are expected to walk with company teams
or as individuals to raise approximately $135,000. Those interested in registering
for the walk should contact the March of Dimes office at 785/228-0084.
Thornburgh is the co-chairman of the 2003 March of Dimes Walk America campaign.
