THORNBURGH ANNOUNCED KANSAS
ELECTION REFORM ADVISORY COUNCIL MEMBER
Topeka, Ks - Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh is pleased to announce Emily
Bradbury's appointment to the Kansas Election Reform Advisory Council. She will
serve as a member of the Voting Standards and Education subcommittee.
In order to receive funding for implementation of the Help America Vote Act
of 2002 (HAVA), a new federal election reform law, an advisory committee must
be established and a state plan developed. The council is comprised of 45 members
who each serve on one of the following subcommittees: Accessibility, Finance,
Central Voter Registration, and Voting Standards and Education.
"The advisory council will provide recommendations for implementing requirements,"
Thornburgh said. "I look forward to working with members of the advisory
council and hope to provide leadership for election officials across the nation."
Bradbury is the executive director of Kids Voting Kansas. She worked with
local election officials and community leaders from around the state to establish
the Kids Voting Kansas program for the 2002 election.
