ELIZABETH ENSLEY REAPPOINTED
SHAWNEE COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSIONER
Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh today appointed Elizabeth Ensley for a third term as Shawnee
County election commissioner. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Secretary of State’s office.
Ensley will serve a four-year term in office.
Elizabeth Ensley has served for 10 years as election commissioner. She was first appointed by
former Secretary of State Bill Graves on January 13, 1992. Ensley filled the remainder of the unexpired
four-year term of her predecessor, Jo Anna Mitchell, who retired. Ensley was reappointed by Secretary
Graves to a full term on January 5, 1994 and then again by Secretary Thornburgh on January 5, 1998.
In addition to community involvement on election issues, Ensley is involved with election issues on
the national level. Ensley is an active member of the Election Center.
“Elizabeth is well respected in the community for her leadership in the election process,” stated
Thornburgh. “At a time when our country’s election process is being scrutinized, I have absolute confidence
in Elizabeth Ensley and her ability to administer fair and accurate elections in Shawnee County.”
“Her work ethic and knowledge in the election process is superior. Elizabeth is a dedicated public
servant who represents the finest of community leaders.”
