Fringe Benefits

  • Health Insurance - Full-time employees are eligible to enroll in one of the health insurance plans provided by the state. Employees have a choice of several plans.
  • Life Insurance - All full-time employees are immediately covered by a term life insurance policy equal to 150% of each employee's annual rate of compensation. Full-time employees may elect to purchase additional life insurance coverage at a group rate.
  • Disability Insurance - All full-time employees have long term disability insurance coverage. The entire cost of the coverage is paid by the agency.
  • Deferred Compensation - A voluntary contribution retirement plan available to full-time employees.
  • HealthQuest - State implemented health promotion program.
  • LearningQuest - A 529 college savings plan.
  • Savings Bonds - Optional purchase of bonds through payroll deduction.
  • KanElect - Flexible benefits program offered by the state which allows for employees to pay for health insurance premiums, and certain health care and dependent care expenses with pretax dollars.
  • Direct Deposit - Employees may choose to have their paycheck deposited into a savings and/or checking account.
  • Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) - Defined benefit pension plan.
  • Worker's Compensation - Covers all state employees. An insurance plan provided by the state to provide possible benefits for personal injury caused by or arising out of and in the course of employment.
  • Tuition Reimbursement - Full-time employees may participate in the college tuition reimbursement program.
  • Parking - Discounted parking rates are available to full-time employees.
  • Holidays and Leave Time

  • State Holidays - The state normally provides eight paid holidays per year.
  • Discretionary Holiday - Each full-time employee is granted one discretionary holiday per calendar year. (certain restrictions apply)
  • Funeral or Death Leave - Up to six working days of leave with pay may be granted for the death of a close relative.
  • Family/Volunteer Leave - Each full-time employee is granted up to eight hours of paid leave per calendar year to 1) attend a recognized charitable activity involving a family member or 2) volunteer for activities of the employee's choice.
  • Sick Leave - Full-time employees accumulate up to 3.7 hours of sick leave per 80 hours per pay period.
  • Vacation Leave - Full-time employees with less than five years of service accumulate vacation leave up to 3.7 hours of leave per 80 hours per pay period. The rate of accrual increases after 5 years, after 10 years and once again after 15 years.
