08/02/2002 Kansas Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh is projecting a low voter turnout for the primary election scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday, August 6. "We will see a record low turnout in the upcoming primary election," stated Thornburgh.
07/17/2002 The U.S. district court ruled in favor of extending the deadline allowing military service men and women and overseas civilians additional time to return their primary election ballot.

01/17/2002 LOBBYIST DIRECTORY GOES ONLINE. The Kansas Lobbyist Directory can now be accessed online at www.kssos.org. The new online directory includes a search feature, which allows users to search for lobbyist and the organizations they represent. In addition, users can download and print the directory.
Hard copies of the directory can also be purchased in the Secretary of State’s office for $2.00 plus tax per copy. The new charge is an effort to recover the expense of formatting and printing the directory.

07/24/2001 STATEMENT ISSUED BY SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE AND KIDS VOTING KANSAS REGARDING WEBSITE
The Secretary of State’s office and Kids Voting Kansas is issuing a warning to parents and schools regarding the Kids Voting Kansas Website. Parents should be advised that the material on the website (www.kidsvotingkan.org) is not suitable for children. This domain name is now in use by another organization and the contents are not suitable for children.
Kids Voting Kansas will have their website up and running at a new address in the next few weeks. Kids Voting Kansas is a non-profit agency operated by the Kids Voting Kansas State Board.

Secretary Thornburgh proposed the bill to address recent problems with election crimes in Kansas. The bill speaks to four types of election problems: voter registration suppression, vote trading, voter intimidation and electioneering.
